I bought this book as a textbook for a class on Typography. This takes you through a history of type, explains the various classifications of type fonts, shows how to use type in different point sizes, and how that affects readability and attractiveness.
Useful for print (books, magazines, posters, etc.) and display.Designing with Type: The Essential Guide to Typography |

| "Designing with Type," was the textbook I used when I first began teaching graphic design in the mid-seventies. (I think that was the first edition.) When I was a student, the subject was called "lettering" and consisted mostly of calligraphy, and there were no adequate texts at the time. Having the basic, yet comprehensive, source, DWT, to use in the classroom was a godsend. Seeing the Fifth Edition, today, is just as exciting as seeing the First, back then. The book also has an excellent companion website: [...], an extensive resource site: [...], and a presence on FaceBook and Twitter. I have used other texts along the way, and DWT is by far the best for a beginning Typography class, as well as a resource for more advanced classes. Thank you, Jim, for sharing your magic with us. |

| Most everyone uses written word to get someone to listen to them. While this is geared toward graphic design and advertisement, it can be very useful to nearly all people. We often do not realize how important a font, type size, spacing, etc. can be. This book will help clear that and send you on the right path for developing clearer and more exciting ways to present your material. Get this book and reach the people that you've been missing! |

| for a beginner, like me, this is just the right amount of information in each chapter- not too overwhelming and not too basic either. |
