I bought SUCCESS! for the Paramedic (4th Edition) and EMT-Paramedic Interactive Flashcards Book (REA) (Flash Card Books) to help study for the paramedic written examination. I found both very beneficial to aiding me pass (1st time with around 80 questions [less is better if you pass]) for the written exam.
Overall I would have to say that the Success for the Paramedic is a great aid in determining weaknesses with the various chapters, but like a previous reviewer comment, it's not going to replace your paramedic bible [which would be rated six stars if I could]. With almost some two thousand questions it's better to obtain this book months out before taking any examination process (if you plan on getting the most benefit via taking the chapter review tests). The questions are chapter specific, generally harder (than the exam's questions itself) and great at identifying underdeveloped areas of understanding. The answer key at the end of the chapters provides great rationale for each answer and should be used to review areas of weakness. The book itself lacks the global general style of questioning that is found in the actual written examination process itself, but is very well suited to measuring knowledge about various specific and independent topics that forms the foundation to being a knowledgeable paramedic.

I bought many different guides for taking the NREMT-P. Let me be completely honest with you and tell you that the absolute best study guide is the one you have in your bag... Yes, I'm talking about your medic bible. There's not a magical study guide (that I know of at least).
In my mind, theres 2 steps to passing the NREMT-P
Step #1 - Read your medic bible through 3 or 4 times.
Step #2 - Step #2 makes Step #1 easier. BUY THIS BOOK. Read it, test yourself, read it more, read your book, take notes, test yourself again, read your book... Yes, you'll probably hate your life while you are doing it but it is worth it in the end. I used this study guide as a way to challenge myself to read. I tested myself on a section, checked my answers, read in the back of the study guide why the answers were correct, and then looked up the ones I missed in the bible and read more about the topic.
I took the test in late 2008 for the first time and it stopped me at question #72 (the earlier is stops you, the better OR worse you did) and I passed. I truly thought that the questions on the NREMT-P were easier than the majority of the questions in the study guide. Your hard work will pay off! Just stay focused!

| This review isn't bad, but it covers little of the actual stuff that is seen on the national registry exam. I bought the[...] review book after I bought this one, and I found that book more useful. It was created by students, so I guess that's maybe why it's better, and helped me pass my NREMT-P. |
